Why Reading Aloud With Your Child Matters
09/25/26
Did you know that when you read aloud with your child, they get to hear new words, ask questions, and spend time with you?
Reading is a critical part of early literacy skills and caregiver-child bonding; and children learn best through everyday moments with the people who care for them.
How do I start?
Try a book before bed, after lunch, or whenever you have a few minutes, and make it interactive.
- Point to a pictures
- Ask what might happen next and give your child time to answer
- Let your child turn the pages or tell part of the story
Pro Tip: Even a book you’ve read a hundred times can still spark new conversations and observations! Familiar books give children another chance to notice details and join in.
