Q: What is National Breastfeeding Month?

A: National Breastfeeding Month is a social media advocacy and outreach campaign held in August by the US Breastfeeding Committee to advance the conversation around the policy and practice changes needed to support breastfeeding for babies and families. This advocacy campaign raises awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and provides education and support to help mothers successfully breastfeed their children.To learn more about why breastfeeding is so important for moms and babies, check out our “B is for Breastfeeding Benefits” resource!

Q: What is Black Breastfeeding Week?

A: Black Breastfeeding Week (August 25-31) is held during National Breastfeeding month and is a special week to highlight the unique challenges to breastfeeding that Black mothers face and to offer tailored support and resources. At Action for Children, we are proud to support National Breastfeeding Month and Black Breastfeeding Week by introducing new resources and stories from real moms that aim to empower Black families and promote breastfeeding as a vital, nurturing practice for all families!

Q: What resources does Action for Children offer for breastfeeding mothers?

A: At Action for Children, we are committed to providing ongoing support through Help Me Grow home visiting, an evidence-based parent support program encourages early prenatal and well-baby care, as well as parenting education to promote the comprehensive health and development of children. Learn more about this program on our website. We’ve also designed several several resources with the help of our Help Me Grow experts, including “B is for Breastfeeding Benefits,” “5 Breastfeeding Tips for New Moms,” and “Baby Formula 101” to support mothers in their breastfeeding journey!

Q: What if I’m not able to breastfeed?

A: That’s totally ok! Formula is a safe and totally viable option that saves lives, especially when breastfeeding isn’t an option. Learn more about this in our “Baby Formula 101” resource.
