Toddler - What to Look For

You’ll want a safe and stimulating environment for your toddler.  You want a setting that allows your toddler to begin experiencing independence, and yet she knows that the caring and nurturing of the caregiver is close at hand.  Use the Take the Time brochure to help you when you search and interview.  Additionally, when searching for care for your toddler, look for:

  • A caregiver that loves children and is committed to providing a secure, trusting foundation for you child.
  • A group size in which you child will be comfortable.
  • A setting that allows your toddler to understand the balance between her independence and the routine of the day.
  • An environment that is safe and encourages your toddler to explore.
  • A setting where your toddler will be held, talked to, sung to and cuddled.  Talking and singing to toddlers promotes language development.
  • A caregiver that will communicate well with you.  Find a caregiver that you will feel comfortable talking to about your child.
  • Find a setting that will allow you to start out with care gradually, then work up to full day care.
Be positive in your choice.  Toddlers can sense your mood, worries and concerns.
