Running Your Center

Whether you are a child care center owner or director of a small size child care center or one that is large, you’ll want to continue to develop your expertise in several leadership areas. These include developing your vision and mission to reflect your philosophy of early childhood development; building and supporting community among your staff, parents and children and with neighbors, businesses and policy-makers; supporting staff through mentoring and coaching; and developing a strong organization through managing and over-seeing policies and procedures (The Visionary Director, by Margie Carter and Deb Curtis).

Action for Children offers technical assistance to directors in these leadership areas through a variety of programs such as a center accreditation support network, through a lending library of books and video resources, magazine articles, seminars and a variety of workshops and other resources. Advocacy opportunities are also available through Action for Children’s network.
