How You Can Help Your Child Grow:
  • Hold and cuddle her often. Babies and toddlers need loving and tender touch to build trust, self confidence and communication.
  • As you read to her, you are modeling important understandings such as books are read from front to back, top to bottom, and that words are read left to right. Always give positive encouragement so that reading together is a happy time and one she’ll want to do over and over.
  • Help her develop awareness by reflecting his experiences.  “You are pointing to the street.  Is it because you hear the garbage truck?”
  • Provide objects for carrying, such as baskets, large empty plastic bottles, balls.
  • Expose her to a variety of music through CDs, singing or playing an instrument. Dance to the music in different ways to see which she likes best. Music helps develop math and analytical thinking skills.
  • Child-proof everything as your toddler gets mobile! Read labels and store toxic substances up high. Put safety latches on cabinets and covers on electrical outlets. Lower crib mattresses so that older babies can't fall over the rail. Cover sharp corners of tables or shelves to avoid bumps and bruises.
