Home Providers

Ohio is one of a few states that currently does not license all family child care homes. There are two types of family child care homes in Ohio:

Type A Family Child Care Home - These homes are licensed to care for 7 to 12 children in a providers home with 2 caregivers. The provider's own children count in the ratio until age 6. These homes are licensed through the state of Ohio.

Type B Family Child Care Home – These homes may care for up to 6 children at one time, with no more than 3 children under the age of two years-old. The provider's own children count in the ratio until age 6 years. This is the most popular type of child care home. Providers who are registered with Action for Children or certified with Franklin County Department of Job & Family Services are Type B homes.

It is important to remember that anyone who does child care in their home can care for no more that 6 children at a time, with no more than three under the age of two years-old. Again, the provider's own children count until age 6 years. This is a state law.
