Action for Children has held a place for children and families in central Ohio since 1972.
Over the years, the agency has worked with multiple stakeholders – parents, the early childhood professional community, area schools and colleges, funders, legislators, and community leaders – to drive higher quality in child care and early learning and to influence policy decisions effectively. Demand for child care has grown tremendously; recent welfare reform, brain development research and education performance measures not only compelling demand, but also requiring increased supply with emphasis on quality, particularly in terms of early learning.
With a history of over thirty years service to the community and an eye always to the future, Action for Children is uniquely positioned and prepared for its leadership role in continuing to build a strong foundation for all children in central Ohio.
In 2006, Action for Children became one of a select number of child care resource and referral agencies across the nation that are recognized as being quality assured. Much like the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Association for Family Child Care accreditation programs for centers and home providers, the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA), through its program Child Care Aware, offers a quality assurance program for child care resource and referral. Action for Children staff, with support from NACCRRA, worked for over a year to ensure that all best practices are in place to ensure the highest quality services to the parents and families we serve. By achieving Quality Assurance, Action for Children provides strong leadership for all programs in our community that are working towards the highest standards of excellence in early care and education.
